South by Southwest celebrated its 30th year, and per usual, this festival combining Interactive, Film and Music did not disappoint!
The excitement kicked off with President Barack Obama taking center stage in an interview with the Texas Tribune. In this time, he talked about the need to bring digital innovation to the public sector. The President did not cast a shadow though on the motivating and eye-opening presentation by Gerald Casey immediately before Mr. Obama. He spoke of the struggles of hard-working Americans and the gap between the wealthiest and the most in need.
Brene Brown of the University of Houston also led an exceptional presentation on the role of vulnerability in the creation process. Other speakers include Kevin Plank, the founder and CEO of UnderArmour who spoke of persistence and digital intelligence data.
Sessions & Expo
Following this landmark POTUS-SXSW event, a variety of sessions ensued with topics ranging from design and marketing to harassment and health. The sessions ran the gamut from engaging and thought-provoking to inspiring and imaginative. The range of industries, businesses and products at the expo was similar.
One thing that cannot be denied is the continuous trends in certain technologies and strategies. Some of these trends included:
- Artificial Intelligence
- Augmented Reality
- Virtual Reality
- Autonomous Vehicles
All-in-all the festival was packed with learning, great brands, promising start-ups and brilliant ideas. Can’t wait to see what’s on the agenda for next spring!
